it's the little things

In theory I like to stop and savor the little things of life that make it sweet, such as Lena's glee when I pick her up out of her crib, Siena's faithful shadow, having just one baby for a little while longer, or waking up beside Elliott each day (something a military wife learns to never take for granted).

However, in the hustle and bustle of life lately, I've taken fewer photos and often forget that we live in Italy, for crying out loud. (One reader pointed that out recently... to my conviction!)  This week I tried to capture some things that have made our lives sweet recently.  Here are a few glimpses into life in our home:
in the phone booth in town, I love that she's talking with her hands!
& morning light in the neighborhood
main square
& view of our town and Mt Etna, the largest volcano in Europe
running down the hill into the main piazza
& a visit to the little general store where I picked up some of my favorite tortellini for lunch
a pit stop for a drink on a walk
& stairs from the valley leading up to our house on the edge of the cliff... a long walk with a baby on your hip!
Daddy's cowboy hat
& a mailbox in our neighborhood
 dazzling morning light
& looking out over our town
our first trip to Centro Sicilia mall... which is all of 10 minutes from our house
making the switch to greener kitchen products
 my little girl

where did those neighborhood kittens go?
& well, there's one of them
bella principessa before church on Sunday
& bike on a balcony

Today I'm linking up with Hello Hue and InstaFriday.

  6. What a beautiful place to live! Isn't it funny how as expats we often take it for granted until others help us to notice it?

  7. These pics are so great! Lena is beautiful!

This post reminds me of our life in Spain when we were stationed there. I know exactly what you mean about not taking for granted the fact that you get to wake up next to your spouse... That's me every day!

  8. These pictures are gorgeous and bring back so many memories of when I lived in Catania as a child. The roman blinds especially- it was the first thing I heard every morning, my mother ratcheting up the blinds and letting them down at dusk...

  16. Such a lovely slice of life in Italy. Lena is adorable and I think she might be Italian... just look at her talking with those hands! ;)

I've really got to switch to greener cleaning products. Do you like the Meyer's line?

    1. JUST started with Mrs. Meyer's, but I'm a fan so far. The dish and hand soaps are both definitely gentler on my hands than other soaps, and that's a huge plus during these cold winters when the water takes a long time to heat up in our taps. I'm not sure if the counter spray is worth the trouble so far, but I love the scent! I have Honeysuckle and Parsley scents so far and LOVE both of them.

  18. Oh Becca, you are so sweet. Did you get my email a couple of weeks ago? Might have sent it to the wrong address. Basically just wanted you to know how encouraging it is to hear from women with husbands in the military/living overseas/pursuing the Lord/etc. etc. Thankful for you!
